It was a short 20 minute walk along the beach into town, so we got out to enjoy the view every day on our way to dining, diving and surfing.
Cape Byron Lighthouse stands on the most Easterly point in Australia, and looks out over the entirety of Byron Bay. We lucked out and visited the lighthouse on the clearest day of our trip, so the view was incredible.
What are these photos about?
I was thirsty after the lighthouse visit, but this magpie was pretty sure that the fountain belongs to him and him alone.
We had ice cream instead of water; it was probably for the best!
In between surfing & diving adventures, and my work, our trip was full of eating, drinking, and socializing. We discovered some great local spots like Bay Leaf café and St Elmo. Living in a holiday house led to a few 'innovations', like the egg-cup-as-cocktail-measure, and the double-patty burger!
Through with renting boards, I picked up a cheap, second-hand Mini-Mal. It's huge, it's thick, and it's floaty: just what I need.
The Wreck is one of Byron's most famous surf spots. We only dragged our boards down here once, but it was my best surf of the trip! I managed to snap a couple of photos on one of our walks from town to capture the feel of the place.
I had to run to get the camera, but managed to snap one decent shot of this huge 1.5m long Goanna (or Monitor) lizard crawling into the bush behind our house!
We had a few hours to burn before our flight, so with Georgia playing 'spotter' we sat down and watched some pretty amazing surfers riding a point break off Tweed Heads.
I wish this trip were another two weeks long, but at least the view at the airport was good!
